Bass Instincts was originally formed in 1984 and split up after five successful years playing for local dances, regular ceilidh venues, festivals - Whitby, Sidmouth, Holmfirth, among others, as well as local and national radio. There were two LP recordings: Stripper's Waltz [1986, Dambuster Records] and Bassland [1987, Mayday Records] In 1989, the members of the band went their separate ways, going on to form or join other Essex bands, notably, Itchy Feet, The Metric Foot Band, Harkelees, The Hosepipe Band and KEGS. In late 2006, the band was persuaded by a couple of old fans to reform for a one-off gig, but it was such good fun that they decided to keep going. Our new line-up comprises four of the five original members plus a new drummer / percussionist: Christy Alston - Drums, Percussion Graham Alston - Guitars, Banjo, Vocals Simon Haines - Melodeons, Footbass, Hurdy-gurdy, Vocals Stuart Moffat - Bass guitar, Acoustic guitar, Hamonica, Vocals Val Woollard - Recorders, English bagpipes, Bombarde, Flute, Yamaha WX5 Windcontroller, Vocals Although mainly a ceilidh band with a strong rock streak, th band also offers concert spots combining songs and instrumentals. We have recently released, Black to Bassics, a 13-track CD of new material. Samples of the band's material can be heard on Myspace at: |
