CHEAP JACK

Cheap Jack’s sound is rooted in the English country dance tradition of John Clare, Thomas Hardy, and Fred Pidgeon, although their repertoire draws from all over the British Isles.

Cheap Jack play as a four- or five-piece. The basic line-up is Dave Wooldridge on fiddle, with Alex Szyszkowski on melodeon, while Dave Bawden plays keyboards and hurdy-gurdy. Add guest Pete Cooper, Richard Harrison, Chris Dyer or Lina Adinolfi on fiddle, and Trevor Bennett on trombone or Ned Clack on tuba, and you’ve got Cheap Jack’s classic twin fiddle sound driven along by a stomping ‘got to get up and dance’ bass line.

Cheap Jack's pumping, driving and scraping music is perfect for private parties, wedding receptions, ceilidhs or barn dances. The whole audience dances, stomps and bounces around to their solid, infectious rhythms, be the venue large or small. Seriously good fun!.

Cheap Jack play mostly in London and surrounding counties. They have featured at Sidmouth and Swanage folk festivals and at the Knees Up ceilidh at Cecil Sharp House.
